Productivity, Mental Resilience and Cheerleader for Greatness | Coach Kris Mac

To celebrate World Productivity Day we picked the brain of Local Southland thought leader Kris Mac. Our go-to guy when it comes to all things productivity, mental resilience and cheerleader for greatness. All of which are needed when paving the way as a founder.

Most people end every day feeling exhausted but also feeling like they haven't really done anything! Have you ever asked yourself that question, "what did I actually accomplish today?" As much as everyone wants to believe, being busy is not a good thing! Being productive is. Ticking sh*t off is. Moving in the right direction is. That’s what’s really important, so you can keep the momentum up and move in that direction.

So, how do you do this? Here are 3 things to think about:

Big Picture

What do you really want to achieve?

If you don't know the answer to this question it is pretty tough to know what to do every day to make sure you are moving in the "right" direction.

The big picture could be that big goal you have for your startup company, or what you want to be known for in your industry.

Needle Movers

What do you need to do tomorrow to move the needle?

Every night you should know what needs to happen tomorrow. This is not your "human" tasks like picking up the kids from school, or grocery shopping. Ask yourself:

  1. What are the top 3 actions you can take tomorrow that will move the needle most?

  2. What are the top 3 actions that I can eliminate right now that are preventing you from moving the needle?

Create structure

Your schedule is your budget for your time. While most think schedules are a place to be filled with important meetings and to-dos, time is a limited resource that needs to be spent wisely.

The best “to-do” list is really a “not to-do” list. Take an inventory of what you do each day and then ask yourself if you need to “automate, delegate, or eliminate” these tasks.
