Plan for Level 3

It is vital that everyone knows we are still under Alert Level 4, and all Alert Level 4 restrictions remain in place. For moving to level 3 on the morning of Tuesday the 28th April, this is what you need to know.

The Golden Rules for businesses at Alert Level 3

  • If your business requires close physical contact it can’t operate.

  • Your staff should work from home if they can.

  • Customers cannot come onto your premises. Unless you are a supermarket, dairy, petrol station, pharmacy or permitted health service.

  • Your business must be contactless. Your customers can pay online, over the phone or in a contactless way. Delivery or pick-up must also be contactless.

  • Basic hygiene measures must be maintained. Physical distancing, hand washing and regularly cleaning surfaces. Workers must stay home if they are sick.

  • If you used PPE in your business before COVID-19, then keep using it in the same way. If you didn’t use PPE in your business before COVID-19, you don’t need it now. This is advice for retailers, manufacturers and the service industries. Different advice applies to essential healthcare workers, border agencies, courts and tribunal staff, first responders and corrections staff. Visit health.govt.nz for more advice

  • You must meet all other health and safety obligations.

Before we return to work

Before your workers return to the workplace there are a few things we can do to prepare.

  • Develop a “Return to the Workplace” plan. It will prevent missing any steps out and ensure you have a safe environment to return to. There is a lot to think about, it is easy to overlook even basic requirements.

  • Check over your emergency plans and equipment, make sure fire extinguishers and fire suppression equipment is checked and serviceable.

  • Make sure the workplace is thoroughly cleaned before anyone starts work.

  • Drain and flush zip boilers, hot and coldwater systems, water coolers etc. stagnant water systems can harbour Legionella.

  • Make sure air con and heating systems are working. We are moving towards colder weather.

  • Visit the MBIE website and check out their audit and accreditation regimes.
